Sting Newz Service: A tense situation arose outside the Salt Lake residence of former West Bengal minister and CBI officer Upen Biswas. Several lawyers staged a protest there, alleging that although Biswas is known as a representative of the backward community, he has done nothing for them.

The protesting lawyers stated, “Our movement revolves around three key issues. We want to send a message to society that we once considered Upen Biswas an icon of the backward community. However, despite holding ministerial and chairman positions for a long time, he has done nothing for the community. Instead, he used us for his personal gains.”

They further alleged, “He does not answer calls from common people, nor does he grant appointments when people seek to meet him. Yet, he invited RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to his residence and hosted a feast for him! We will no longer tolerate such self-serving individuals. In the future, we will protest outside the homes of all leaders who exploit the name of the backward class for their benefit.”

Despite the protest, Upen Biswas did not meet the lawyers.

Notably, Upen Biswas left the Trinamool Congress in 2021 during the assembly elections. He informed the party leadership about his resignation via email. Reports suggest that he had differences with Trinamool’s stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), though he cited personal reasons for his decision to leave. In 2011, he became a minister after being elected as an MLA from the Bangaon constituency. Additionally, he had been vocal about the SSC recruitment scam.
