Sting Newz Service: In response to the rising demand for legal studies, Kalyani University has introduced a postgraduate law programme (LL.M). Although law courses were previously available at the undergraduate level across four affiliated colleges, this is the first time students can pursue a master’s degree in law at the university.
For years, the university’s four affiliated colleges offered only undergraduate law courses, leading to a growing demand for a master’s programme. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Amalendu Bhuinya, announcing the course’s commencement, shared, “Around 500 students graduate in law each year from our university. The introduction of this master’s programme meets a long-held need, enabling graduates to pursue careers in the West Bengal Judicial and Legal Services and corporate law, along with other professional avenues.”
The new law course will be conducted by the Department of Jibanbyapi Shiksha O Samprasaran, which has already established the necessary facilities, including a library stocked with essential law texts and a modern computer lab. Professor Prosenjit Deb, head of the department, explained that the two-year programme will feature four core specializations: Criminal Law, Corporate Law, Constitutional Law, and Public International Law.
