Samiran Biswas, Sting Newz Correspondent, Tehatta: In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Tehatta, Ananya Singh, IAS, visited Jitpur Muslimpara under Raghunathpur Gram Panchayat in the Tehatta-1 Block of Nadia district. During the ongoing Awas Yojana survey, SDO Singh took the opportunity to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bag usage. She handed out 120-micron tissue paper bags to the local beneficiaries as a sustainable alternative, marking a crucial move towards a greener future.
Accompanied by Tehatta-1 Block Development Officer (BDO), Sanjib Sen, SDO Singh interacted with villagers and emphasized the urgent need to reduce plastic consumption. She highlighted how plastic bags contribute to pollution, harm the environment, and pose risks to local wildlife. “It’s time we adopt eco-friendly solutions in our daily lives. Switching from plastic to biodegradable alternatives is a small step, but it can have a significant impact,” said SDO Singh during her visit.
The survey under Awas Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing affordable housing, has been ongoing across Tehatta Sub-division for several days, but this marked the first occasion where eco-friendly tissue paper bags were distributed alongside the survey activities. The initiative to combine environmental awareness with government schemes was well-received by the villagers, who expressed their gratitude and admiration for the thoughtful gesture.
