Siliguri police seizes brown sugar worth rupees 80 lakh

Biswajit Sarkar, Sting Newz Correspondent, Derjeeling: On a tip off, Siliguri police seized about 1 kg. of brown sugar and arrested three persons including a female in connection with the case, said Jay Tudu, the DCP, East, Siliguri. “It happened at Jalpaiguri crossing,” Tudu said in a Press Meet at Siliguri police station on Wednesday. They were intercepted on October 25.

On basis of a secret intimation, Siliguri police launched a checking at Jalpaiguri crossing on October 25. During that checking, the cops detained a pick up van. There were three persons including a female in that van. A bag of garlic was with them. Police, during search, found the said brown sugar in that garlic bag. So, the sleuths arrested the trio, Tudu said.

they then where taken to Siliguri police station they were identified as Mohammed Noor Alam, Mohammad Siem and Khairool Nisha. ” They confessed that they were smuggling the seized brown sugar from Malda to Siliguri. The estimated price of the brown sugar is about rupees 80 lakh,” the DCP added.

Siliguri police has initiated an investigation to look into who are the other persons of the racket.
